Conditions
There are over 600 types of neuro conditions, which can be broadly categorised as follows –
- Sudden onset conditions – stroke, brain or spinal cord injury
- Intermittent and unpredictable conditions – fibromyalgia, ME, migraines or early stage MS
- Progressive conditions – motor neurone disease, Parkinson’s or later stage MS
- Stable neuro conditions – post-polio syndrome or cerebral palsy in adults
Currently, but not exclusively, we welcome people with the following conditions -
Alzheimer’s
Alzheimer's disease is a progressive neurological condition, which develops gradually over many years and affects multiple brain functions.
Autism
Autism is a developmental disability that affects how a person communicates with, and relates to, the world around them.
Cancer
Cancer occurs where cells in a specific part of the body grow and reproduce uncontrollably. The cancerous cells can invade and destroy surrounding healthy tissue, including organs.
Cerebral Palsy
Cerebral palsy is the name for a group of lifelong conditions that affect movement and co-ordination. It's caused by an issue with the brain that develops before, during or soon after birth.
Fibromyalgia
Fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS), is a long-term condition causing pain all over the body.
Our neuro physio team design a personal exercise program to help manage symptoms, including helping to reduce pain. Oxygen therapy can help by improving levels of fatigue.
Leg Ulcers
A leg ulcer is a long-lasting (chronic) sore that takes more than 2 weeks to heal. They usually develop on the inside of the leg, just above the ankle. The symptoms of a venous leg ulcer include pain, itching and swelling in the affected leg.
Long Covid Symptoms
There are increasing amounts of research into the positive impact of oxygen therapy on those suffering from long covid symptoms.
ME
Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME) is also known as chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) and is a long-term condition with a wide range of symptoms, the most common of which is extreme tiredness.
Oxygen therapy can greatly reduce fatigue.
Multiple Sclerosis
At the end of 2021, around half of our members had MS; a condition affecting the brain and/or spinal cord, causing symptoms including problems with vision, arm or leg movement, sensation or balance. It’s a lifelong condition that can sometimes cause serious disability.
Oxygen therapy can reduce numbness, tingling and tremors, as well as improving levels of fatigue and bladder control. Regular exercise can improve strength, mobility and levels of fatigue, as well as improving bowel and bladder control.
Parkinson’s
Parkinson’s disease is a condition in which parts of the brain become progressively damaged.
Neuro physio can help to relieve muscle stiffness and joint pain through movement and exercise, to improve flexibility and walking.
Sports injuries/recovery
Breathing pure oxygen at pressure reduces inflammation, increases blood flow and repairs tissue. Users report improvements to mobility and boosts to energy levels.
Stroke
A stroke is where the blood supply to the brain is cut off either by a clot or bleed in the brain. Recovery is different for everyone – some recover fully over time, but others have long-term or lifelong disabilities, including weakness or paralysis to parts of the body.
